Bucharest, November 16, 2020 - The Institute of Financial Studies (ISF) will organize, on November 24, 2020, starting with 12.00, the ISF2020 International Conference "New generations of consumers of financial services - how we train them, how we educate them".

The event will take place under the high patronage of the Financial Supervisory Authority and will be broadcast online through the Zoom platform.

The theme of the conference will be centered around a topical issue: how the COVID-19 pandemic and online communication will influence financial education and new generations of consumers.

During this period, in which financial markets are undergoing fundamental paradigm shifts, financial education will play a key role, especially in shaping new generations of consumers.

In this context, there are several key topics, which are also on the OECD agenda, which will be the leitmotif of the debates that will take place during the conference organized by ISF:

    What should be the financial education models designed to support consumers or companies in such times?

    Can both the pace and the quality of the steps initiated by the market and the regulators to increase the degree of financial education be maintained?

    To what extent can a unique and sustained process of assessing the professional competencies of insurance staff contribute to improving the relationship with the consumer of insurance services?

    What alternatives exist internationally to increase the professionalization of financial markets?

"We are witnessing an accelerated transformation of financial markets through digitization and easy access to almost all insurance products, pensions, scholarships or investment funds. Millions of consumers in Romania are offered a variety of complex financial instruments with a wide range of options. Liability and risk shift to policyholders, investors or future retirees. If consumers are financially educated, they will be more likely to save and protect themselves from possible side effects, which will have a positive impact on their financial situation and growth. I believe that through financial education we can improve the economic performance of everyone, but also the well-being of society in general ", said Mr. Valentin Ionescu, President of ISF.

The conference will enjoy participation at the highest level. Will the conference during the event:

    Nicu MARCU, President of the Financial Supervision Authority;

    Timothy SHAKESBY, EIOPA Conduct-Supervision Directorate Coordinator;

    Flore-Anne MESSY, Secretary of State of the OECD / INFE and Coordinator of the Division of Insurance, Private Pensions and Financial Markets, OECD;

    Verena ROSS, ESMA Executive Director;

    Valentin IONESCU, President of ISF.
